Although all of our weighted products have similarities including our exclusive CoverCalm® Technology (evenly distributed weight from your baby’s shoulders to toes), double zippers for easy diaper changes, and 100% natural soft cotton, our Dream Weighted Swaddle, Transition Swaddle, and Sleep Sack each have unique features that can work for babies in different stages.

Here are a few key differences:

Dream Weighted Swaddle

The Dream Weighted Swaddle is designed for babies who are 0-6 months and can be used as soon as your baby is 8 lbs. Your baby can wear the Dream Swaddle until they outgrow the maximum length of 26 inches. The Swaddle is designed so your baby has ample room to move their legs and is acknowledged by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute as a “hip-healthy” product when used as directed.

In addition to our exclusive CoverCalm® technology, evenly distributed weight to help your baby feel calm and self-soothe, the Dream Swaddle features an easy-to-use built-in swaddle band. Swaddling mimics the security of a mother’s womb and helps control the Moro reflex that can often startle a baby awake. Having the swaddle band built-in keeps your baby snug, safe, and asleep for longer stretches. The inner swaddle band is secured with velcro to keep your baby from breaking out of it.

The Dream Swaddle is designed to grow with your little one and features 3 ways to wear it: both arms in, one arm in, and both arms out. These 3 ways to wear can help your baby seamlessly transition out of swaddling and into a sleep sack. The Dream Swaddle has small snaps on the sleeves that can be opened as your baby develops and shows signs of rolling. Many parents find that using the one-arm-in method helps to make the transition out of the swaddle easier until your baby is ready to be completely swaddle-free.

Once your baby is no longer swaddled and has both arms out, the built-in swaddle wing can be wrapped around your baby's torso and the zipper can be zipped up as usual. You can use this just as you would a sleep sack until your baby is ready to size up!

Dream Weighted Transition Swaddle

If your baby is ready to say goodbye to the inner swaddle band completely, it’s probably time for our patent-pending Weighted Transition Swaddle. This swaddle is designed to reduce wake-ups and help transition your baby safely to arms-out sleep. This sleep sack features innovative, 3/4 length gently weighted sleeves that fit snugly to help reduce the Moro (startle) reflex.

The Transition Swaddle comes in two sizes: Small (3-6 Months), for babies who are 12-16 lbs and 23-26 in, and Large (6-9 Months), for babies who are 15+ lbs and 26-28 in. Unlike a traditional swaddle, your baby can move their arms freely and roll over when wearing the Transition Swaddle. Once your baby shows signs of rolling, it is no longer safe for them to be swaddled with their arms in, which is why the Transition Swaddle is the perfect solution to allow for a safe and secure transition out of swaddling and into a sleep sack.

Dream Weighted Sleep Sack

The Dream Weighted Sleep Sack is a perfect fit for babies either who do not like being swaddled or have fully transitioned out of swaddling and have begun to roll.

Our Dream Sleep Sack comes in several sizes including 0-6 months, 6-12 months, 12-24 months, and 24-36 months. Finding the right size is determined by the weight and length of your baby (take our size finder quiz here).

Our sleep sacks are designed to be longer, so babies have ample room to grow and are able to move their legs and kick comfortably. The gentle weight is located on the front (or top) of the sack only, and will not restrict movement, so your baby can safely roll, sit or stand!

The Dream Sleep Sack Features a reversible neckline that is perfect for babies who like to roll over and sleep on their tummy. If your baby prefers to sleep on their stomach, simply put the sleep sack on backward with the zipper on your baby’s back, and lay them down as normal. Doing so allows your baby to still feel the benefits of the evenly distributed weight to help them feel calm, fall asleep faster, and stay asleep longer.

So there you go! Now you know everything you need to know in order to decide which Dreamland product is best for your little one.

Here’s to sound sleep and sweet dreams for both you and your baby!

Dreamland Baby was developed in partnership with pediatricians, pulmonologists, NICU nurses, and certified sleep consultants. Our weighted products have passed all Consumer Product Safety Commission standards. The International Hip Dysplasia Institute acknowledges Dreamland Baby’s Swaddle as a "hip-healthy" product when used as directed.

In June 2022, the AAP updated its sleep guidelines and is currently not recommending weighted sleep solutions. You can read the full report here. Please note that this is not a recall. Dreamland Baby is in ongoing dialogue with the AAP regarding its stance on weighted sleepwear and hopes it will result in the statement being retracted.
