Dreamland Spotlight - Meet the Ashcraft Family

Hello, Dreamers!

Meet Ashley, Tim, and their four children!

My name is Ashley Ashcraft, and we are a seasoned military family currently stationed at Fort Liberty, North Carolina. My husband, Tim, is an Apache helicopter pilot serving in the Army, and I am an author and homeschool mom. We have four children, with our youngest, Finley, being eight months old.

Our Dreamland Baby Story

When I was 12 weeks pregnant, we received a call from my OB’s office with a 9 out of 10 chance that our daughter had Down syndrome. This news was both scary and overwhelming, especially when we learned during an ultrasound that Finley had two holes in her heart, confirming the diagnosis. At 30 weeks, her heart rate plummeted, and I was rushed to the hospital for a C-section. Our little miracle, Finley, was born at just 2 pounds 12 ounces and endured an 88-day stay in the NICU.

As I prepared for Finley’s arrival, I learned that many babies with Down syndrome face sleep challenges due to low muscle tone, facial structure, and narrow airways. When I saw the Dreamland Baby Weighted Sleep Swaddle on Shark Tank, I hoped it would be the solution we needed for better sleep.

The Dreamland Difference

When we finally got home from our three-month NICU stay, I was eager to sleep in my bed after living in the Ronald McDonald House for so long, often sleeping on the sofa there. For the first few nights, Finley woke often as she seemed to be trying to tame unicorns in her sleep. At five pounds, I initially thought she was too small for the Dreamland Baby Weighted Swaddle, but we both needed sleep, so I decided to try it. As soon as I swaddled her arms and zipped her up, her body calmed under the gentle weight. She tried to do her usual kickboxing routine, but couldn’t. That night was the beginning of our successful sleep journey.

Finley has always been in constant motion, even in the womb! Traditional swaddles and sleep sacks didn’t work for her—she’d quickly unwrap herself and couldn’t settle down. But when we tried the Dreamland Baby Weighted Sleep Swaddle, everything changed. The gentle pressure calmed her, and she finally began to sleep soundly.

When I recommend Dreamland Baby to a friend, I tell them...

This product really works! Finley can now put herself to sleep, and she sleeps through the night almost every night. The Dreamland Baby Weighted Sleep Swaddle has had a dramatic impact on her ability to rest and recharge.

I highly recommend this product to every family with a baby because sleep is an essential part of development for a baby, a key component to healing and mental health for the mother, and aids in providing emotional balance for all family members during an often stressful (and sweet!) season of life.

I remain astounded at its effectiveness. Sleep is vital for everyone, but especially for babies with Down syndrome, who face more developmental challenges. I’m grateful that Dreamland Baby allows Finley’s body to rest fully, so her brain can do the important work of healing and preparing for each new day.

In June 2022, the AAP updated its sleep guidelines and is currently not recommending weighted sleep solutions. You can read the full report here. Please note that this is not a recall. Dreamland Baby is in ongoing dialogue with the AAP regarding its stance on weighted sleepwear and hopes it will result in the statement being retracted.
